The airport was originally established in 1936, when the Royal Canadian Air Force opened a small seaplane base at the foot of Granville Street Bridge. The airfield was used for military training and operations until the late 1950s, when it was decommissioned and returned to the city. In 1984, Harbour Air began using the airfield for seaplane operations.

The name Vancouver Harbour Water Airport was chosen in recognition of the harbour’s historical significance. The harbour has been a major port of entry for ships travelling between the Pacific Ocean and Vancouver since the mid-1800s. Today, the harbour is still a major hub for shipping and tourism.

The airport code CXH was determined by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It is an abbreviation of the city’s name, with the “X” and “H” representing the first two letters of “Vancouver”.

Vancouver Harbour Water Airport currently has up to 12 flights per day, depending on the season. The airport is served by Harbour Air Seaplanes, as well as other local seaplane operators. Flights to nearby destinations, such as Nanaimo, Victoria and Whistler, are available.

Harbour Air Seaplanes also offers a number of scenic tours, allowing visitors to view the city from a bird’s eye view. The company also has a fleet of floatplanes available for charter.

Vancouver Harbour Water Airport is a popular tourist destination and a great way to experience the city and its surrounding beauty. The airport has come a long way since it was first established in 1936, and today it is a popular choice for those looking to explore the area by air.
