The airport was used for pilot and navigator training, as well as for aircraft maintenance. After the war, the airfield was deactivated and the land was sold to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The land was then used as a tire testing facility, and the airport was used as a private airstrip.

In the 1970s, the City of Goodyear purchased the land and the airport was reactivated as the Phoenix Goodyear Airport. It was given its name to honor the history of the area and its past connection to the tire company.
