Unraveling the History of China Southern Airlines: How the Airline Became One of the World's Most Important Carriers

China Southern Airlines has a long-standing history of providing safe, reliable, and comfortable air travel for both domestic and international customers. Founded in 1988, it is one of the three major airlines in the People’s Republic of China and the largest in terms of fleet size and passenger numbers. After its formation, the airline has grown to become one of the world’s most important air carriers.

The airline was originally established by CITIC, a Chinese state-owned corporation, and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. In 1993, the airline’s ownership and management were transferred to the China Southern Air Holding Company (CSAH). CSAH is a subsidiary of the China Southern Group, a state-owned enterprise.

Currently, the airline’s fleet consists of over 600 aircrafts, including Boeing and Airbus models. These aircrafts are used to operate flights to over 200 destinations in 40 countries and regions throughout Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America, and Africa.

Throughout its history, China Southern Airlines has achieved many milestones. In 1993, the airline became the first Chinese carrier to join the SkyTeam Alliance. In 2000, it was the first Chinese carrier to join the Civil Aviation Organization and adopt an international flight schedule. In 2004, the airline became the first Chinese carrier to enter the global market by launching flights to Los Angeles. In 2009, the airline was the first Chinese carrier to operate flights to Europe, with flights to Amsterdam. In 2012, China Southern Airlines became the first Chinese carrier to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In addition to its many milestones, China Southern Airlines has also faced some difficult times. In 1998, an accident involving one of the airline’s planes resulted in the death of over 100 people. In 2005, the airline was involved in a major scandal involving the illegal sale of tickets. In 2014, the airline was the subject of a federal investigation into allegations of safety violations.

Despite these incidents, China Southern Airlines has continued to evolve and improve its service. In recent years, the airline has invested heavily in new aircrafts, improved its customer service, and expanded its destinations. It has also launched a range of new products and services such as mobile check-in and online booking.

China Southern Airlines is now the world’s fourth largest airline in terms of passenger numbers, and one of the most important airlines in the People’s Republic of China. The airline’s growth and success is a testament to its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and comfortable air travel.
