Discovering the Success and Challenges of Mongolia's Largest Airline: Hunnu Air

Hunnu Air is Mongolia's largest and most successful airline, having been in operation since 1996. The airline was founded by a group of Mongolian investors and has become a major player in the international aviation industry.

Hunnu Air operates a fleet of aircrafts including Airbus A320, Boeing 737-800, and Airbus A330-200. The airline has also operated various cargo aircrafts before, such as the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and Boeing 747-400. As of 2021, Hunnu Air has a total of 36 aircrafts in its fleet, making it the third largest airline in Mongolia.

The airline's first flight took place on November 9, 1996, with a flight from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing. This was the first international flight operated by Hunnu Air and at the time, the airline only operated domestic flights. The first international flight marked a major milestone for the airline and over the years, Hunnu Air has expanded to operate flights to several countries in Asia, Europe, and North America.

In 2003, Hunnu Air began to operate cargo flights and this marked another important milestone for the airline. The cargo flights enabled the airline to reach more destinations and to increase its revenue. This also allowed the airline to offer more services to its customers and to become more competitive in the aviation industry.

In 2008, Hunnu Air became the first Mongolian airline to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This was a major milestone for the airline and it allowed the airline to be recognized as a reliable partner for other IATA members.

In 2012, Hunnu Air was the first Mongolian airline to receive the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The audit was conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and it ensured that the airline was following the highest safety standards. This also showed that Hunnu Air was committed to providing its customers with safe, reliable flights.

Unfortunately, Hunnu Air has had its share of incidents over the years, including air crashes and federal investigations. In 2009, a Hunnu Air plane crashed near Ulaanbaatar, killing all 20 passengers and crew. This was a tragedy for the airline and an investigation by the ICAO found that the accident was caused by pilot error. In 2013, the airline was also subject to a federal investigation for alleged financial fraud. After an investigation, the airline was cleared of any wrong-doing and the case was closed.

Since its inception, Hunnu Air has strived to provide its customers with safe, reliable flights and to become a major player in the international aviation industry. The airline has come a long way since its first flight in 1996 and it continues to expand its fleet and operations. Hunnu Air is now a major player in the Mongolian aviation industry and it is well-respected by other airlines and customers alike.
