Unlock the Benefits of Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport: Exploring the East Valley's International Airport

Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport (formerly Williams Gateway Airport) is an international airport located in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The airport is located 20 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix and serves the eastern suburbs of Phoenix, including Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, and Queen Creek. The airport was originally built in 1941 as Williams Air Force Base and was used as a training facility for World War II pilots. After the war, the air base was decommissioned and the facility was turned over to the City of Mesa in 1948.

The airport was then renamed Williams Gateway Airport and it’s been used for general aviation since then. In 2008, the airport was renamed Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport to better reflect its proximity to Phoenix and the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The airport code AZA was derived from the city’s original name, Arizona.

Today, Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport is served by Allegiant Airlines and Southwest Airlines, with an average of seven flights a day. Allegiant offers flights to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Diego, while Southwest offers flights to Denver, Houston, and Dallas. The airport also offers several charter services and is a popular destination for flight training and other general aviation activities.

The airport is also home to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority, which is responsible for the management and operation of the airport. The Authority works to ensure that the airport provides safe, efficient, and customer-friendly service to the community. The Authority also works with other local, state, and federal agencies to promote the development of airline services, economic development, and tourism in the region.

The Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport is an important part of the greater Phoenix area, providing travelers with convenient access to the East Valley. The airport has also become a popular destination for business travelers, as it offers easy access to downtown Phoenix and the surrounding suburbs. With its convenient location, reliable services, and modern amenities, Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport is an important gateway to the region.
