Whiteman Air Force Base (AFB) is located in Knob Noster, Missouri and is home to the 509th Bomb Wing, the only active-duty B-2 Spirit bomber wing in the United States Air Force. The base was named after 2nd Lieutenant George A. Whiteman, who was killed in action during the Battle of Château-Thierry in World War I. Whiteman AFB was established in 1942 as Sedalia Army Airfield and served as a flight training center during World War II.

The airport code, SZL, was determined by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This code is derived from the airport’s three-letter identifier, SZL, which stands for Sedalia Army Airfield.

In addition to being home to the 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB is also home to the 442nd Fighter Wing, the Missouri Air National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserve's 947th Engineer Company. The base is also home to several other organizations and services, including a medical clinic, a dental clinic, a fitness center, a chapel, a library, a gas station, and a post office.

Whiteman AFB has two runways and two helipads. The two runways are 1306 and 1804 meters long respectively. The two helipads are located nearby each other and are 25 meters long. The base is capable of handling up to 65 flights per day.





The airlines that serve Whiteman AFB are American Eagle, Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines, and United Express. All these airlines offer flights to and from the base.
