Having opened in 2014, HIA is the second international airport in Qatar and replaced Doha International Airport (DIA). The upgrading of the airport was part of a larger effort to expand the country’s infrastructure, in order to accommodate the ever-increasing number of travelers.

HIA is the largest airport in Qatar and is home to the country’s national carrier, Qatar Airways. HIA is also the first airport in the Middle East to be certified as a 5-Star Airport by Skytrax, the international air transport rating organization.

HIA’s airport code is DOH and is derived from the first two letters of Doha, which is the capital of Qatar. The code is unique to the airport and is used by airlines and travelers worldwide to identify the airport.
