The history of Brisbane Airport dates back to the early 1900s when the first commercial flight from England to Australia landed in Brisbane in 1911. That same year, the first Brisbane Airport was established at Eagle Farm, near the current site of Hamilton. The first international flight from Brisbane occurred in 1933, when a flight from New Zealand to Brisbane was operated by the Tasman Empire Airways.

In the 1940s, the Royal Australian Air Force took control of the airport, renaming it the Eagle Farm Airbase and using it as a base for military operations. In the 1950s, the airport was returned to civilian use and the Brisbane City Council resumed control of the airport. In 1958, the Eagle Farm Airport was officially renamed the Brisbane Airport, and the terminal building was opened in 1965.

Brisbane Airport is often referred to as the “Gateway to Australia” due to its strategic location and its status as Australia’s third busiest airport. It has also been referred to as the “the friendly airport”, due to its welcoming and efficient customer service.
