Uncovering West Atlantic's History - An IATA Certified Carbon-Neutral Airline

West Atlantic is a Swedish airline founded in 1997 by the former head of SAS Cargo, Hans Ola Meyer. The company was originally named West Air Cargo until it changed its name to West Atlantic in 2010. West Atlantic is a cargo airline that specializes in freight services and operates a fleet of Boeing 737-400F and ATR 42-320 aircraft.

The airline’s first flight took place in 1998 when it flew from Stockholm to London Stansted. Over the years, West Atlantic has grown significantly and now operates services to more than 50 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America.

In 2003, West Atlantic began to expand its services to include passenger flights. The airline now operates charter flights for leisure and business customers, as well as cargo services. The airline is also a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which sets standards for the air transport industry.

West Atlantic’s fleet consists of Boeing 737-400F and ATR 42-320 aircraft. The airline also operates several helicopters, which are used for aerial photography and medical evacuation services.

West Atlantic has experienced a number of important milestones throughout its history. In 2009, the airline was awarded its first long-term contract, which allowed it to expand its operations to include destinations in the Middle East and Africa. In 2011, West Atlantic became the first airline in the world to receive an Environmental Management System (EMS) certification from IATA. This certification allows the airline to demonstrate its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable operations.

In 2012, West Atlantic became the first airline in the world to be certified as a carbon-neutral airline. This certification was achieved through a variety of initiatives, including the purchase of carbon credits and the implementation of fuel-efficient operations.

The airline has also been involved in a number of incidents over the years. In 2003, a West Atlantic cargo aircraft crashed during a training flight in Sweden, killing the two pilots on board. In 2009, the airline was the subject of an investigation by the Swedish government after a West Atlantic aircraft was found to have been operating without proper insurance.

In 2013, the airline experienced a fatal crash in the United Kingdom when a West Atlantic cargo plane crashed in the town of Staines. The crash resulted in the death of the pilot, and the investigation revealed that the aircraft had been overloaded.

West Atlantic has come a long way since its inception in 1997. The airline has grown significantly, not only in terms of its fleet size and destinations, but also in terms of its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable operations.
