Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is Morocco’s flag carrier and the largest airline in the country. It has been in operation since 1957, providing air transport services to over 80 destinations around the world. The airline is owned by the Government of Morocco and serves both domestic and international markets.

The history of RAM begins in 1953 when the Government of Morocco created the Société Nationale de Transport Aérien (SNTA). This company was the first to operate commercial flights in the country and was the precursor to the Royal Air Maroc we know today. The creation of SNTA marked the beginning of Morocco’s aviation industry.

The year 1957 saw the establishment of the Royal Air Maroc Corporation. It was established as a publicly-owned corporation and was given the mission of providing air transportation services to the people of Morocco and its international customers. RAM was initially operated by the Ministry of Transport, but was later transferred to the Ministry of Tourism in 1960.

The first international flight of RAM took place in 1961, when the company flew from Casablanca to Geneva. This marked the beginning of the airline’s expansion into international markets. Over the years, RAM has added more destinations and increased its fleet size to keep up with the growing demand for air travel.

One of the most important milestones in RAM’s history was the acquisition of a new fleet in the late 1970s. This fleet consisted of Boeing 707s, Boeing 727s, and McDonnell-Douglas DC10s. These aircraft enabled RAM to increase its capacity and extend its network of international destinations.

Another important milestone in RAM’s history was the introduction of its first Airbus A320 aircraft in 2000. This marked the beginning of the airline’s shift towards a more modern fleet, which today consists of over 40 aircraft.

In recent years, RAM has taken a number of steps to improve its service and expand its route network. In 2013, the airline launched its frequent flyer program, Safar Flyer, which offers passengers special rewards and discounts. In 2016, RAM opened its first lounge in Casablanca Airport, offering passengers a comfortable place to relax while they wait for their flights.

Unfortunately, RAM has also been the site of a few tragic incidents. In 1994, the airline’s Flight 630 crashed near the city of Tiznit, claiming the lives of all 44 passengers and crew members aboard. In 2002, the airline was the subject of a federal investigation after it was found to have transported undeclared passengers from Spain to Morocco.

Today, Royal Air Maroc is a leader in the African aviation industry. The airline is constantly looking for ways to improve its service and provide its customers with a safe and comfortable flying experience. With its modern fleet, extensive route network, and frequent flyer program, RAM continues to provide travelers with an excellent air travel experience.
