Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the main airport serving Kuala Lumpur and the rest of Malaysia. It is located in Sepang, Selangor, approximately 45 km south of the city center. The airport opened in 1998, replacing the old Subang International Airport as the country’s main international gateway. KLIA was designed to be a modern and efficient airport that could accommodate the growing number of passengers and cargo traffic to and from Malaysia.

The airport was initially known as Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), but in 2005, it was renamed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The new name was chosen to reflect the airport’s importance as an international hub and to symbolize the strong ties between Malaysia, the United States and other countries around the world.

KLIA’s airport code, KUL, is derived from the city’s name, Kuala Lumpur. The code is used by airlines and air navigation services when referring to the airport.

KLIA has two passenger terminals, the Main Terminal and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). It also has two runways and is capable of handling up to 60 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. The airport can accommodate up to 150 flights per day and is served by a number of major international airlines, including AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Qatar Airways.





KLIA has become one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia, with over 70 million passengers annually. It is also the home of Malaysia’s largest airline, AirAsia. The airport is a major hub for international air traffic and is connected to over 100 destinations in more than 60 countries around the world.

KLIA is an important economic driver for Malaysia, generating billions of dollars in revenue each year. The airport’s infrastructure and facilities have been continuously improved over the years and it continues to serve as an important gateway for travelers to and from Malaysia.
