Jeju Air started out with just one aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, and operated both domestic and international flights. In its first year of operation, the airline flew 1.3 million passengers, a number which steadily increased over the years. Before long, Jeju Air had grown and become a major player in the Korean aviation industry.

The airline’s fleet eventually grew to include Boeing 737-700s, Boeing 737-800s, Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and Airbus A321-200s. In addition to its domestic routes, Jeju Air operated international flights to countries like China, Japan, and the Philippines. The airline is also the first Korean carrier to offer the unique “open-jaw” ticket, which allows passengers to fly from one international destination to another with a stopover in South Korea.

One of the most important milestones in Jeju Air’s history was in 2010 when it became the first South Korean budget airline to launch flights to Japan. This marked the beginning of the airline’s international expansion and gave it access to a much larger market. In the following years, Jeju Air continued to expand its network, launching flights to China and the Philippines.

Another important milestone was in 2015 when Jeju Air became the first South Korean airline to be certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This gave the airline access to IATA’s global network, allowing it to expand its operations even further.

In 2017, Jeju Air was involved in a major incident when one of its Boeing 737-800s crashed into the sea off the coast of South Korea. The accident resulted in the death of two crew members and the injury of four passengers. Following the incident, the airline launched a comprehensive safety review of its operations and took steps to improve its safety measures.

In 2018, Jeju Air became the first South Korean budget airline to be granted permission to fly to the United States. The airline was also granted permission to fly to the United Arab Emirates in the same year. With this move, Jeju Air expanded its international network even further and solidified its place as one of the leading airlines in South Korea.

Today, Jeju Air continues to be an important part of the South Korean aviation industry. The airline has come a long way since its inception and has firmly established itself as an industry leader. With its expansion into the US and UAE, Jeju Air has demonstrated its commitment to providing its customers with safe, reliable, and affordable services.
