Cinnamon Air is one of Sri Lanka's leading domestic airlines, providing scheduled and charter services to a wide range of destinations. Founded in 2011, the airline has grown to become a well-known and respected provider within the region.

The airline was the brainchild of two friends, Prasanna Wickramasinghe and Kapila Kasturiarachchi. The two recognized the need for efficient, reliable, and affordable air travel within Sri Lanka and sought to provide this service through the formation of Cinnamon Air. With the help of local investors, they were able to acquire the necessary funding and launch their airline in April of 2011.

The initial fleet of the airline comprised of four Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft, each seating up to nine passengers. In the years since, the fleet has grown to include a variety of aircraft including the Cessna Citation XLS+ and the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 Turbo Prop. As of 2021, the airline operates a total of 18 aircraft.

Cinnamon Air has had several important milestones since its launch. In 2012, the airline became the first domestic carrier in Sri Lanka to offer online booking services. In 2014, the airline introduced its loyalty program, offering passengers points for flights and discounts on future travel. In 2016, the airline introduced the first private lounge at the Bandaranaike International Airport, providing a unique and luxurious experience for its customers. In 2018, the airline became the first domestic carrier in Sri Lanka to offer business class travel.

In 2019, the airline launched its first international route to India, connecting Colombo to Chennai. This marked a major milestone in the airline's history as it expanded its reach beyond the domestic market. The airline has since continued to expand its international network and now offers services to multiple destinations in India, Malaysia, and Thailand.
