EVA Air is a Taiwanese international airline based in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The airline was founded in 1989 by Evergreen Group, a shipping company, and began its first flight in 1991. It is now one of the most successful airlines in Asia, and the second largest airline in Taiwan.
The airline began operations with a fleet of Boeing 747 and MD-11 aircraft. In 1994, it began to expand its fleet by adding Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft to its lineup. In 1997, it became the first airline in Asia to order Boeing 777 aircraft, which it started operating in 1998.
