Discover the Remarkable History of SpiceJet: India's Leading Low-cost Airline





The history of SpiceJet dates back to May 2005, when the Indian low-cost airline was founded by the airline's current Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Ajay Singh. The airline's first flight took off from Delhi to Mumbai and by April 2007, the airline had established itself as a leader in the domestic aviation industry.

SpiceJet's fleet consists of Boeing 737 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft, as well as ATR 72 and ATR 42 turboprop aircraft. The airline currently has over 120 aircraft in its fleet and has flown more than 1 million passengers since its inception.

SpiceJet has gone through many changes since its founding in 2005. In 2008, the airline was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange of India. In 2009, the airline was the first in India to introduce internet booking and mobile booking. In 2012, the airline was the first to introduce a frequent flyer program.

One of the most important milestones in the history of SpiceJet was in 2013 when the airline celebrated its tenth anniversary. The airline also launched a new brand identity and a new logo. The airline also launched a new website and mobile application.





In 2014, the airline announced a partnership with the Indian Air Force to launch SpiceJet Air Force, which is a low-cost airline that provides exclusive services to military personnel and their families. The airline also announced plans to expand its fleet and add new international destinations.

In 2015, SpiceJet was the first Indian airline to introduce an online seat selection service. The airline also launched its first code-share agreement with a foreign airline, namely, Gulf Air.

In 2016, SpiceJet was the first Indian airline to operate a flight from Delhi to Kabul, Afghanistan. The airline also introduced a new loyalty program called the SpiceClub and announced plans to introduce an in-flight entertainment system.

Unfortunately, the airline has had its share of incidents over the years. In 2010, three people were killed when a SpiceJet aircraft crashed near Mangalore, India. In 2013, a SpiceJet plane veered off the runway at the Delhi airport. In 2014, the airline was the subject of a federal investigation after a passenger was denied boarding due to a visa issue.





In spite of these incidents, SpiceJet has managed to remain a leader in the Indian aviation industry. The airline continues to introduce new services and expand its fleet. With over 120 aircraft in its fleet, SpiceJet has become one of the most successful airlines in India.
