Norfolk Naval Station (Chambers Field) is a United States Navy base located in Norfolk, Virginia. The base is the largest naval station in the world and the home port of the US Atlantic Fleet, with a staff of more than 18,000 military and civilian personnel. The base was established in 1917 during World War I and is named for Rear Admiral John Henry Chambers, a former commander of the North Atlantic Squadron.
