Discover the Gateway to the Caribbean: St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport

St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport, located on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean. It is the only international airport in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the primary gateway to the Caribbean for travelers from the United States. The airport is named after Cyril E. King, the first elected governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, who served from 1970 to 1978.

The airport was originally established in 1940 as Charlotte Amalie Harbor Seaplane Base, and was used mainly for military purposes. In 1941, it was renamed the Alexander Hamilton Airport after Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. In 1966, it was renamed again in honor of Cyril E. King.

The airport code, STT, is derived from its name, St. Thomas. STT is the airport code assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Today, St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport is a major hub for air travelers coming to and from the Caribbean. The airport offers direct flights to the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and other Caribbean islands. It has an average of 35 daily commercial departures and arrivals, with the majority of flights being operated by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, and United Airlines.

St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport also serves as a point of entry for cargo and relief flights, as well as for private charter flights. It is home to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility, a U.S. Coast Guard station, and a Caribbean Air Command base.

St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport continues to be a gateway to the Caribbean, providing a safe and efficient air travel experience for millions of travelers each year. It is also a major contributor to the local economy, providing jobs and other economic opportunities to the people of St. Thomas.
