The history of Vistara can be traced back to the early 1990s when Air India and Indian Airlines were merged to form the National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL), commonly known as Indian Airlines. At that time, the Indian government was heavily involved in the management of domestic air travel and there was little scope for private sector participation. It was not until the early 2000s that the government began to relax the restrictions on airline ownership and foreign investment, paving the way for Vistara to enter the market.

Vistara was officially launched in January 2015, with the mission to provide its customers with a world-class flying experience. The airline’s first flight was from Delhi to Mumbai and it quickly expanded its network with flights to other major cities in India. Vistara initially operated a fleet of Airbus A320-200 aircraft, but later expanded to include A320neo, Boeing 737-800NG and ATR 72-500 aircraft.

Vistara quickly established itself as one of the most reliable and efficient airlines in the country, with an impressive on-time performance record. The airline also received international recognition for its high levels of customer service and safety, and was ranked as one of the top performing airlines in the world by AirlineRatings.com in 2020.

Since its launch, Vistara has achieved several milestones. In 2019, the airline became the first Indian carrier to fly to Singapore and in 2020, it became the first Indian airline to offer complimentary Wi-Fi on all its flights. The airline also launched its regional wing, Vistara Regional, in the same year, which operates a fleet of ATR 72 turboprop aircraft.

Vistara has unfortunately had its share of incidents and accidents. In 2019, one of its flights from Delhi to Mumbai was forced to make an emergency landing due to a smoke alarm. The airline has also been involved in a number of federal investigations, including one in 2020 for possible safety violations.

Despite these incidents, Vistara has grown to become one of the most successful and respected airlines in India. It has become the first Indian airline to operate a fleet of widebody aircraft and has consistently been recognized for its high levels of customer service and safety. As the airline continues to expand its network and fleet, it is sure to remain a major player in the Indian aviation industry for many years to come.
