Uncovering the History of Toumaï Air Tchad - The National Carrier of Chad

Toumaï Air Tchad is the national carrier of Chad, located in Central Africa. The airline was founded in 1981 and is the only scheduled carrier in the country. It began operations with a single aircraft, a Boeing 707, and initially served the capital city of N'Djamena and Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest airlines in Africa.

The airline's fleet consists of a variety of aircraft, including Boeing 707s, Airbus A320s, ATR 72s and Bombardier Dash 8s. Toumaï Air Tchad also operates a number of cargo aircraft, including Antonov An-12s and Ilyushin Il-76s. The airline currently serves several cities in Africa, including Libreville, Kinshasa, Abidjan, Douala, Niamey and Ouagadougou.

Toumaï Air Tchad has experienced several milestones throughout its history. In 1984, the airline inaugurated its first international route to Paris, France. In 1990, the airline acquired its first Airbus A320, becoming the first African airline to operate a modern jet aircraft. In 2002, the airline began operating its first ATR 72 aircraft, which allowed it to expand its regional network. In 2007, the airline was the first African carrier to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Toumaï Air Tchad has also suffered some setbacks during its history. In 2002, one of its Boeing 707s crashed in the Sahara desert, killing all 122 passengers and crew on board. In 2007, the airline was the subject of a federal investigation due to allegations of financial irregularities and mismanagement. The airline was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing, but the incident damaged its reputation.

Despite these setbacks, Toumaï Air Tchad has continued to grow and evolve over the years. The airline has modernized its fleet, expanded its network and improved its operations. It is now a respected member of the African aviation industry, and continues to be the national carrier of Chad.
