The airline is based in the provincial capital of Chengdu and operates domestic, regional and international flights to over 80 destinations. It is a member of the Star Alliance and is one of the country’s major airlines.

Sichuan Airlines was founded in 1953, when it was established as the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Southwest Regional Administration (CAAC SWRA). In 1988, the airline was officially established as Sichuan Airlines, and it has since grown to become one of the largest airlines in China.

The Sichuan Airlines fleet currently consists of over 100 aircraft, including Boeing 737, 787 Dreamliners, Airbus A320, A321, and A330 aircraft. The airline is also one of the few in the world to operate both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787. The fleet is among the youngest in Asia and is one of the most fuel-efficient in the world.

Sichuan Airlines has had several high-profile incidents over the years. In 2019, a flight from Chengdu to Shanghai experienced an engine failure, resulting in the plane making an emergency landing in the Jiangxi province. The incident led to an investigation by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the airline subsequently implemented changes to its maintenance standards and procedures. In 2020, a flight from Chongqing to Chengdu experienced a mid-air decompression, resulting in the plane making an emergency landing in Chengdu. The incident also led to an investigation, and the airline made changes to its emergency response protocols and crew training.

Overall, Sichuan Airlines has a long and storied history. From its beginnings as a regional airline to its current status as one of the leading carriers in China, the airline has come a long way. Its fleet is among the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the world, and it has implemented numerous safety and quality management systems to ensure the highest standards of safety and service.
