The Milestones of Alaska Air Cargo: A History

The history of Alaska Air Cargo began in 1932 when Alaska Airlines was founded in Anchorage, Alaska. The airline was initially a small air freight service, providing air freight delivery between Anchorage and Juneau. In 1947, Alaska Airlines started offering scheduled passenger service.

Today, Alaska Air Cargo is a major air freight carrier and is the largest carrier of freight within the state of Alaska. The Air Cargo fleet includes 44 aircraft, which includes both cargo and passenger planes. Some of the planes in the fleet include Boeing 737-700s, Airbus A320s, and MD-80s.

Alaska Air Cargo has had many important milestones throughout its history. In 1986, the airline was the first airline to offer scheduled cargo services between Anchorage and Seattle. In 1994, the airline purchased three Boeing 737-400s, allowing it to expand its cargo service to other destinations. In 1998, the airline began offering cargo services to Hawaii.

In 2001, Alaska Air Cargo began offering freight services to the lower 48 states, allowing it to reach even more customers. In 2005, the airline began offering overnight air cargo services, allowing it to provide faster delivery times for its customers.

In 2011, Alaska Air Cargo launched its first all-cargo flight, which was a Boeing 737-400F. In 2013, the airline introduced its first refrigerated cargo containers, allowing it to transport temperature-sensitive items. In 2016, the airline began offering automated cargo tracking, allowing customers to track their shipments more easily.

Finally, in 2018, Alaska Air Cargo launched a new cargo terminal in Anchorage, allowing it to increase its cargo capacity and improve its service to customers. This terminal expanded the airline’s cargo operations and allowed it to accommodate larger shipments.

Today, Alaska Air Cargo continues to be a major air freight force within the state of Alaska and is constantly expanding its services to meet the needs of customers. The airline’s history is marked by important milestones and continues to provide reliable, fast, and efficient air freight services.
