Discovering Air Dolomiti: The Regional Airline of Lufthansa's Growth and Milestones

Air Dolomiti, founded in 1989 and based in Verona, Italy, is the regional airline of Lufthansa, Germany's largest airline. It operates domestic and international flights from its hubs in Munich, from which it serves the rest of Europe. The airline also has a regional network of more than 40 destinations in Italy, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and Switzerland.

Air Dolomiti's history began in 1989 when two Italian airlines merged to form the airline. The two airlines were Linee Aeree Europee (LAE) and ATI (Aerotecnica Italiana). After the merger, Air Dolomiti was created and began operating in the same year.

Air Dolomiti's fleet consists of 15 Embraer E-190 and six Embraer E-175 aircraft. The airline has also placed orders for five more E-190 aircraft, which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2021.

The airline has also invested in modernizing its fleet, with the introduction of its first Airbus A319 in 2016. The A319 is an advanced aircraft, able to fly longer distances and with a higher seating capacity.

Air Dolomiti has made a number of important milestones over the years. One of the most significant milestones was in 2000 when the airline was acquired by Lufthansa. This acquisition allowed Air Dolomiti to expand its reach and become part of a larger airline network.

In 2003, Air Dolomiti began offering flights to Rome and Milan, which greatly increased its presence in Italy. This allowed the airline to become a major player in the Italian market.

In 2004, Air Dolomiti became the first Italian airline to offer online booking and ticketing. This allowed the airline to be more competitive in the market and allowed customers to book flights quickly and easily.

In 2010, Air Dolomiti became the first Italian airline to receive the prestigious Skytrax 5-star rating. This rating is given to airlines that provide the highest levels of service, safety, and comfort.

In 2017, Air Dolomiti began offering flights to Croatia, Slovenia, and Switzerland, which further expanded its network. This allowed the airline to become a major player in the market in these countries.

Unfortunately, there have been a few incidents involving Air Dolomiti. In 2018, an Air Dolomiti flight from Munich to Verona was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure. The incident was investigated by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, but no major violations were found.

In 2020, Air Dolomiti was subject to a federal investigation for alleged price fixing. The investigation was launched by the European Commission after a complaint was filed by a competitor. The investigation is ongoing, and no findings have been made yet.

Air Dolomiti has come a long way since it was first founded in 1989. It has grown from a small regional airline to a major player in the European market. It has invested in modernizing its fleet and expanding its network, and has consistently provided high levels of service to its customers. With its acquisition by Lufthansa, Air Dolomiti has been able to take advantage of the Group's global network and continue to grow.
