Nolinor Aviation is a Canadian regional airline that was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. The airline specializes in charter flights, cargo transportation, and air ambulance services. It operates domestic and international flights to more than 60 destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Nolinor Aviation was founded by entrepreneur Claude Poirier in 1988. Poirier had a long history of working in the aviation industry and saw an opportunity to provide services to smaller markets in Quebec. He started by leasing a single aircraft, a Boeing 737-200, and providing charter services throughout the province.
The airline grew quickly and, by 1991, had expanded to include international charter operations. During this time, Nolinor was awarded the contract to provide air ambulance services for the province of Quebec. The airline also began to expand its fleet, adding Dash 8-100s and ATR42s to meet the growing demand for air ambulance services.
In 2000, Nolinor became the first Canadian airline to be certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This certification enabled the airline to expand its operations to include international destinations. Nolinor began offering scheduled flights to the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, as well as charter flights to destinations around the world.
Over the years, Nolinor has continued to expand its fleet and services. In 2013, the airline added Airbus A320s to its fleet. These aircraft allowed Nolinor to expand its services to include long-haul, international flights. The airline also began offering cargo services, including the transportation of express freight and mail.
Nolinor has had a few incidents over the years, including an air crash in 2008. The crash occurred when a Boeing 737-200, operated by Nolinor, went down in Labrador after hitting a mountain. All five crew members on board were killed. The cause of the crash was determined to be pilot error.
Another incident occurred in 2014, when Nolinor was investigated by the Canadian Transportation Agency for failing to provide adequate service to passengers on several flights. The airline was found to have violated several regulations and was fined $25,000. Nolinor has since improved its service and adheres to all Canadian regulations.
