Discover the History and Milestones of Skyservice Airlines: 1987-Present

Skyservice is an airline that has been providing service since 1987. The company was originally founded as Sky Service Air Charters in 1987, when a group of entrepreneurs from Toronto, Canada, decided to create a company that could provide private jet charter services. Since then, Skyservice has developed into an international airline that is well-known for its quality service and innovative technology.

Skyservice began operations in 1988, offering jet charter services to corporations, private individuals and government agencies. The fleet of aircraft initially included Cessna Citation, Beechcraft King Air and Dornier 228 aircraft. In the 1990s, the company began to expand its fleet to include larger, long-range aircraft such as the Boeing 757 and Airbus A320. Today, the airline operates a fleet of over sixty aircraft, including the Airbus A319 and A320 series, Bombardier CRJ-200 and Embraer E190.

Since its inception, Skyservice has experienced many milestones that have shaped the airline’s history. In 1995, the airline became the first Canadian company to offer low-cost, scheduled air service, with flights between Toronto and Quebec City. In 1997, the company was selected to provide the official air transport services for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. The following year, Skyservice became the launch customer for the Bombardier CRJ200 jet, making it the first commercial airline in Canada to use the aircraft.

In 2004, Skyservice expanded its service to include the United States, becoming the first Canadian airline to operate trans-border flights from Canada to the United States. The following year, the company became the first Canadian airline to be certified to fly the Airbus A320. In 2008, Skyservice became the first Canadian airline to be named as a Qualified Vendor by the Air Transport Association of Canada.

Unfortunately, Skyservice has also been involved in several incidents. In 1999, a Skyservice flight from Toronto to Calgary experienced an engine failure, causing the plane to crash into a snowbank. All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, but the incident caused a federal investigation and the suspension of Skyservice’s flight operations. In 2002, a Skyservice flight from Toronto to Montreal experienced a midair collision with a Cessna Citation. The incident resulted in the death of four passengers and three crew members.

Despite these incidents, Skyservice has continued to provide quality service and has evolved into one of the leading airlines in Canada. The company has consistently been at the forefront of technological innovation, and has been the first in the industry to adopt newer and more advanced aircraft. The company has also invested heavily in the customer experience, with a focus on providing personalized services and amenities. Today, Skyservice is a major player in the Canadian airline industry, and continues to strive for excellence in service and customer satisfaction.
