The history of Air Canada is a long and distinguished one, tracing its roots all the way back to the late 1920s. It began as Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA), which was established in 1937 by the Canadian government as a domestic carrier. Air Canada has also faced its share of challenges over the years. In 1961, a Trans-Canada Air Lines flight from Montreal to Toronto crashed, killing all 118 people onboard. The crash was the deadliest aviation disaster in Canadian history. In 1998, Air Canada was the subject of a federal investigation into allegations that the airline had violated government regulations by placing orders for aircraft without proper authorization. The investigation found that Air Canada had indeed violated government regulations, and the airline was ordered to pay over $30 million in fines.
