AEE was founded in 1998 by the Grupo Marsans Group, which is based in Madrid. The airline was established as a regional carrier, operating short haul flights to Spain's major cities and tourist destinations. The first aircraft of the airline was the Bombardier Dash 8-300, which was used for those short haul flights.

In 2000, AEE began to expand its fleet, adding the Bombardier CRJ 200 to its fleet. In 2004, the airline began to acquire larger aircraft, beginning with the Airbus A320-200. This allowed the airline to expand its network to include international destinations.

In 2005, the airline was rebranded as Air Europa Express, and began a major expansion of its fleet. This included the addition of the Airbus A330-200 and the Boeing 737-800. The airline now operates a total of 24 aircraft, including the Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A330, Boeing 737-800, and the Bombardier Dash 8-300.

Over the years, AEE has had several important milestones. In 2007, the airline launched its first long-haul service from Madrid to Miami and New York, making AEE a truly international airline. In 2009, it launched its first low-cost service from Madrid to Paris.

In 2010, AEE acquired its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The Dreamliner allowed the airline to expand its network to include destinations in South America, Africa, and Asia. This was a major milestone for the airline and allowed it to become a truly global carrier.

In 2012, AEE launched its first international codeshare agreement with American Airlines, allowing passengers to fly between Spain and the United States on the same ticket. This was another major milestone for the airline and opened up new opportunities for passengers.

AEE has also had some incidents involving its aircraft. In 2011, an AEE Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had to make an emergency landing in Madrid due to a technical issue. There were no injuries and the aircraft was repaired and returned to service. In 2014, an AEE Airbus A320-200 was involved in a minor incident in which the aircraft veered off the runway during takeoff. Fortunately, no one was injured and the aircraft was repaired and returned to service.

Overall, Air Europa Express has come a long way since its founding in 1998. The airline has grown from a regional carrier to a global low-cost carrier operating international routes. With its fleet of 24 aircraft, the airline is now capable of reaching almost any destination in the world. With its strong safety record and codeshare agreements, AEE is well-positioned to continue its growth and success in the years to come.
