Explore the Skies with Air Europa: The Third-Largest Airline in Spain

Air Europa is a major Spanish airline based in Palma de Mallorca. Established in 1986, it is the third-largest airline in Spain after Iberia and Vueling. The airline began as a charter service and initially operated only domestic flights within Spain. Over the years, however, the airline has evolved into a full service international carrier, and now offers flights to over 40 destinations in Europe, North Africa, and North America.

Air Europa has grown substantially since its inception in 1986. From a single plane and two routes, the airline now operates a fleet of over 50 aircraft and serves more than 40 destinations. The airline has also expanded its operations to include cargo and charter services, as well as code-sharing agreements with other major airlines, such as KLM and United.

The airline was founded by Juan José Hidalgo, a Spanish entrepreneur, who saw the potential for a new airline to fill the gap between the major Spanish airlines and the smaller regional carriers. In 1989, the airline received its first international route, from Barcelona to London. This route was quickly followed by new routes to other European cities, such as Paris, Rome, and Amsterdam.

Throughout its history, Air Europa has achieved many milestones. In 1997, the airline was the first Spanish airline to launch an online booking system. The following year, it became the first Spanish airline to offer non-stop flights to the United States, with service to Miami. In 2003, it became the first Spanish airline to receive a four-star rating from Skytrax. And in 2011, Air Europa became the first Spanish airline to launch flights to South America, with a route from Madrid to Bogota, Colombia.

In recent years, Air Europa has become one of the most popular airlines in Spain. The airline has also been consistently ranked as one of the top airlines in Europe by Skytrax, with a four-star rating since 2003. The airline has also been recognized for its commitment to sustainability, having been named the most eco-friendly airline in Spain by Atmosfair in 2014.

Air Europa continues to be a leader in the Spanish aviation industry. With a fleet of over 50 aircraft and an expanding network of routes, the airline is well positioned to continue its growth and success in the years to come.
