Discover the History and Milestones of Armenia Airways: A National Airline Since 1933

Armenia Airways is the national airline of Armenia and has been in operation since 1933, making it one of the oldest airlines in the world. The airline was founded by two Armenian brothers, Vazgen and Armen Sarkisyan, who had a dream to connect Armenia to the rest of the world. The airline started with a single aircraft, a Junkers F-13, and operated a few domestic flights. In the years that followed, Armenia Airways grew rapidly, adding more aircraft and routes to its network.

The airline’s fleet has evolved over the years and now includes a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Armenia Airways currently operates a fleet of 14 aircraft, which includes two Boeing 737-800s, four Boeing 737-700s, two Boeing 737-300s, three Airbus A320s, two Airbus A319s, and one Airbus A321. The airline also operates a cargo division, which is made up of two Boeing 767-300F freighters.

Armenia Airways has achieved several important milestones throughout its history. In 1994, the airline became the first Armenian airline to fly to the United States, with a flight from Yerevan to Los Angeles. In 2006, Armenia Airways launched its first international flight to Moscow, which marked the first time that the airline had operated an international route. In 2012, the airline became a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline has also faced some challenges over the years. In 1988, Armenia Airways Flight 752 crashed in the Armenian countryside, killing all 70 people on board. The cause of the crash was determined to be pilot error. In 1998, the airline was the subject of a federal investigation for alleged fraud and mismanagement. The investigation was eventually dropped and the airline was allowed to continue operations.

Throughout its long history, Armenia Airways has grown and evolved, becoming a major player in the aviation industry. Today, the airline operates flights to several destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North America. The airline is also one of the few airlines to operate flights to the United States. Armenia Airways continues to strive to provide safe, reliable, and comfortable air travel to its passengers.
