A Look Back at the Iconic History of Skybus Jet Cargo - The World's Most Successful Cargo Airline

Skybus Jet Cargo is an airline with a long and storied history that has seen it become one of the most successful cargo airlines in the world. Founded in 1977, Skybus Jet Cargo has been flying cargo around the world since its inception.

The airline began operations with a fleet of four Boeing 727-100s, which were leased from Air Florida. The first flight was operated on July 15th, 1977, from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since then, Skybus Jet Cargo has grown to operate a fleet of over 30 cargo aircraft, including the Airbus A300-600, the Boeing 727-200, and the Boeing 747-400.

The airline has seen many milestones in its long history, the most significant of which are outlined below.

In 1988, the airline began flying internationally for the first time, with flights to the Caribbean and South America. This marked the beginning of Skybus Jet Cargo's global reach, which now includes over 40 countries around the world.

In 1999, Skybus Jet Cargo was acquired by Evergreen International Airlines, making it the largest U.S.-based cargo airline. This also allowed the airline to expand its services to Europe and Asia.

In 2005, the airline launched its first all-cargo wide-body service, leveraging its fleet of Boeing 747-400s to provide more capacity and reach more destinations. This allowed the airline to further expand its international presence.

In 2010, the airline made headlines when it was the subject of a federal investigation into the alleged price-fixing of cargo rates. The investigation, however, did not result in any criminal charges being laid against the airline.

In 2011, Skybus Jet Cargo announced that it would be retiring its fleet of Boeing 727s and replacing them with more fuel-efficient aircraft, including the Airbus A300-600. This marked an important milestone for the airline, as it moved away from its reliance on older aircraft and towards a more modern fleet.

Finally, in 2013, the airline announced that it would be expanding its fleet with two new Boeing 747-400 freighters. This marked a significant milestone for the airline, as it was the first time the company had purchased new freighters since the late 1980s.

Skybus Jet Cargo has come a long way since its inception in 1977, and has become one of the most successful cargo airlines in the world. The airline has seen many milestones in its long history, from its first international flights to its acquisition by Evergreen International Airlines, and its move to a more modern fleet. Through it all, Skybus Jet Cargo has remained at the forefront of the cargo airline industry, and is sure to remain there for many years to come.
